Good news from Nigeria as two of the Chibok girls find freedom

Praise God that, after more than eight years in captivity, two of the Chibok girls have found freedom! Please pray for the two young women as they recover from their ordeal, and please keep praying for the release of the others who remain missing. 

Around 100 of the girls taken in April 2014 remain missing

In good news from Nigeria, a further two of the Chibok girls abducted in April 2014 are believed to have found freedom.

According to Nigerian military sources, Hauwa Joseph and her child were rescued by troops of 21 Army Armoured Brigade in Bama, Borno State, while Mary Ngoshe and a child were picked up during a patrol in Gwoza, also in Borno State. Both women are undergoing medical treatment. They are also likely to face interrogation.

Hauwa and Mary were among the 275 girls who had gathered for exams at Chibok Girls State Secondary School on 14 April 2014 when Boko Haram militants arrived, pretending to be government security officials who had come to protect them. They coaxed the girls from their dorms onto trucks and headed for the Sambisa Forest. Before, during and shortly after the attack, 47 of the girls managed to escape.

Since then, according to Open Doors records, the number of young women who have found freedom is 108. This includes Hauwa and Mary. The whereabouts of around 100 others remain unknown.
